Overcast skies today, with mild air moving in from the SW with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Clair should be near the shaded margin through bright spells. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Lac Clair lies within the bounds of Côte-Nord, Quebec. It sits at 165 metres above sea level. It covers about 9 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. The bank runs about 1.3 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Baie-Comeau is the closest place, 53 km off. Hauterive follows at 61 km, then Matane at 67 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Fish Lac Clair to its features, not to its size.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -14°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. On Lac Clair that shapes the whole year.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Lac Castor at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. Confirm before you fish Lac Clair.
