Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with almost no wind to speak of and no real change in pressure. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Lac Habin. Everything points to the morning. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Habin is a Capitale-Nationale water, in Quebec. It sits in pine and birch. At roughly 4 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. The nearest place of any size is Laurentides, 14 km away. Further out sit La Tuque (44 km) and Sainte-Thècle (52 km). Close neighbours run: Lac Leroy within 0.5 km, Lac Ligneux 1.3 km, Lac Bouchard within 1.4 km, Lac Samson 1.5 km and Lac Rondelet within 1.8 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Capitale-Nationale, recorded fish include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Lac Habin the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -15°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Lac Habin regularly works to that calendar.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. There is a recognised fishing place here: Omble de fontaine, 1.3 km off. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Lac Leroy is 0.5 km distant. What applies at Lac Habin may have changed since it was mapped.
