Steady rain over the water today, with barely a breath of wind and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Lac du Castor will be around the shallows early and the drop later. The numbers single out the morning. Slow down and let the fish find the bait. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

You will find Lac du Castor in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec. The surface lies 323 metres up. For a base, Laurentides sits 10 km out. Beyond it, La Tuque at 44 km and Sainte-Thècle at 48 km. Within easy reach: Lac Vert at about 0.5 km, Lac de la Daraise 0.9 km off, Lac Sapin at about 1.5 km, Lac Saphir 1.8 km off and Lac Guyaumar at about 2 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Capitale-Nationale, recorded fish include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Lac du Castor responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Expect July near 18°C and January near -15°C on the long-run figures. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac du Castor runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. There is a fishing place at Omble de fontaine, some 380 m away. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Should this one be busy, Lac Vert is 0.5 km off.
