Overcast skies today, with a faint S drift and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Lac Georges should centre on any hard bottom among the soft. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Georges lies within the bounds of Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have spruce and muskeg. At 4 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Some 66 km away sits Saint-Fulgence, the nearest settlement. Then Saint-Honoré, 68 km, and Chicoutimi, 76 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Lac Georges for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -18°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid May. Break-up sits around mid May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It holds true on Lac Georges more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. For a change of water, Lac Delisle is 1.3 km distant.
