Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with just enough WSW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. On Lac des Pinsons, work the shaded margin through bright spells first. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac des Pinsons. Around the bank it is boreal forest. Surface area runs to about 5 hectares — small enough to read in one session. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. The town to know is Saint-Fulgence, 68 km out. Saguenay is the closest city, 78 km away. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Lac des Pinsons is often the one people ignore.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough mid May. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac des Pinsons runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac du Moineau, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Lac des Pinsons.
