Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with the surface near flat and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Gaulois should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. The productive run goes night into morning. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Set in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec, this is Lac Gaulois. Everything around it is lake country bush. The water measures roughly 7 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Laurentides is the closest place, 12 km off. Sainte-Thècle lies 37 km off, La Tuque another 41 km. Close by you also have: Lac Gagnon lies 1.4 km on, Deuxieme lac Jumeau at 2 km, Lac du Sorbier lies 2 km on, Lac Fortin at 2.1 km and Lac Gordon lies 2.2 km on. This one is safely inside the county line.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The shape of Lac Gaulois decides where the fish sit.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -15°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It holds true on Lac Gaulois more years than not.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Failing this one, try Lac Gagnon, 1.4 km away. None of that is settled for Lac Gaulois in what we hold.
