A closed sky with even light today, with a gentle ripple from the WSW and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Lac Gagnon are likely to sit near the seam between weed and open water. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient.

Lac Gagnon is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, Quebec side. The ground round it is taiga. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list. Roberval lies 24 km from the water. Then Saint-Prime, 24 km, and Saint-Félicien, 27 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac Gagnon the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -18°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Lac Gagnon that shapes the whole year.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Should this one be busy, Lac Pitre is 0.4 km off. Treat Lac Gagnon as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
