A grey, even sky over the water, with a steady SSW wind and pressure sitting still. Lac Chanceux should fish best around shallow cover and weed edges today. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Chanceux is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. Elevation runs to 389 metres. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. It is a small entry by Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean standards. Head to Saint-Prime, 23 km away, for anything you forgot. After that come Saint-Félicien at 24 km and Roberval at 25 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac Chanceux the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Anyone fishing Lac Chanceux regularly works to that calendar.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac du Braconnier sits 1.2 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Lac Chanceux before loading the car.
