Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with light air out of the SSE with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Gachis should be near windblown banks where food collects. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Lac Gachis is a Quebec water. The coast is 28 km away. Around 20 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. A shoreline of some 2.9 km keeps the choices simple. Some 20 km away sits Saint-Honoré, the nearest settlement. Then Saint-Ambroise, 25 km, and Saint-Fulgence, 32 km. Other water nearby: Lac Girard at 0.9 km, Lac Belanray 1 km off, Lac H.-Cote at 1.4 km, Lac Genoux 1.7 km off and Lac de la Truite at 2.2 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The near bank of Lac Gachis is often the one people ignore.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -18°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Plan around that when you fish Lac Gachis.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Should this one be busy, Lac Girard is 0.9 km off. Nothing on Lac Gachis should be assumed from this page alone.
