Flat light and a covered sky today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Lac Genoux around sheltered bays and points. Block out the hours from night into morning. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, this is Lac Genoux. This is northern bush ground. About 6 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Saint-Honoré is the closest town at 18 km. The big place round here is Saguenay, 31 km distant. Within a short drive: Lac Gasoune sits 0.7 km out, Lac Girard just 0.9 km, Lac David sits 1.2 km out, Lac Belanray just 1.4 km and Lac Gachis sits 1.7 km out. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Lac Genoux before you fish it and the day goes better.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Lac Genoux fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Lac Gasoune, 0.7 km out. Nothing on Lac Genoux should be assumed from this page alone.
