Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a soft SSW wind and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Lac Francois should come off the first drop-off and weed lines. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Francois is set in Côte-Nord, Quebec. The ground around here is taiga. With some 10 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 1.6 km, small enough to learn in a day. For supplies, Baie-Comeau is 30 km out. Saguenay is the closest city, 240 km away. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Côte-Nord include logperch. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Lac Francois gives up more to patience than to distance.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -16°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. That is the shape of the year on Lac Francois.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Cousin at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Lac Francois may have changed since it was mapped.
