Rain moving through today, with mild air moving in from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lac Slopy should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Lac Slopy in Côte-Nord, Quebec. Height above sea level is 354 metres. Small at around 6 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Côte-Nord list holds plenty of bigger water. Baie-Comeau lies 30 km from the water. Hauterive is 31 km and Chute-aux-Outardes 40 km. Also worth knowing: Lac Therese about 0.6 km, Lac Doug a shade over 0.9 km, Lac Smith about 1.1 km, Lac Brisson a shade over 1.4 km and Lac Slide about 2.1 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Fish Lac Slopy where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 16°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. On Lac Slopy the same rules apply, with local timing.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Lac Therese is 0.6 km distant. For Lac Slopy in particular, ask before you travel.
