Damp, showery conditions today, with a faint S drift and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Lac Ecouis along the calm side of the wind. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Look for Lac Ecouis in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. The bank gives way to taiga. Start from Chibougamau, 83 km down the road. It is 225 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Close by you also have: Lac Damgan at 1.4 km, Lac Ritchot after 1.4 km, Lac Caubel at 1.8 km, Lac Arvigna after 2.5 km and Lac des Jonquilles at 3.4 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The shape of Lac Ecouis decides where the fish sit.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -19°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan around that when you fish Lac Ecouis.
We hold no note on access for this one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Lac Damgan, 1.4 km away. Treat access at Lac Ecouis as something to verify.
