Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a gentle ripple from the SSW with the barometer flat. Activity on Lac du Carcan should centre on the shallows early and the drop later. Save your energy for the morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac du Carcan lies within the bounds of Lanaudière, Quebec. The bank gives way to lake country bush. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. The town to know is Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm, 5.6 km out. Beyond it, Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts at 30 km and Val-David at 31 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac du Carcan the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -14°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac du Carcan runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Parking sits 610 m out, which makes for a walk with tackle. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Ouareau at 2.8 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Lac du Carcan as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
