A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with a whisper of wind from the WNW and the barometer holding steady. On Lac Blanc, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. Save your energy for the evening. Change depth before you change anything else. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

The Lanaudière entry here is Lac Blanc, in Quebec. Lake country bush runs right down to the water. With some 39 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. On our Lanaudière list it sits near the top for size. Some 1.5 km away sits Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm, the nearest settlement. Mont-Tremblant follows at 31 km, then Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts at 32 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Lanaudière names pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Lac Blanc that means starting tight and working out.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -14°C in January. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Blanc rarely departs from it.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Recorded parking is 820 m off, far enough to travel light. Mapping shows a jetty some 1.1 km off. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Failing this one, try Lac a Coutu, 1.9 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Blanc for certain.
