Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a light SSW breeze and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Lac Doum should centre on the shaded margin through bright spells. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Outaouais end of Quebec holds Lac Doum. The surface lies 390 metres up. Surface area runs to about 9 hectares — small enough to read in one session. For supplies, Saint-Boniface is 99 km out. Gatineau sits 214 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Others worth noting: Lac du Remous after 0.8 km, Lac Patis 1 km away, Lac Margis after 2.1 km, Lac Nucleole 2.2 km away and Lac Pomoy after 2.2 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Our records hold no depth for this water. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Anyone new to Lac Doum should walk it once before setting up.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -17°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac Doum the same rules apply, with local timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac du Remous, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Lac Doum.
