Soft grey light all day today, with stillness over the whole water and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac des Pyrales should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac des Pyrales lies in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, in Quebec. The country here is northern bush. The water covers some 25 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The edge runs 3.9 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Leblanc is the closest town at 83 km. Saguenay sits 225 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. This one is safely inside the county line.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac des Pyrales the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The range across the year is -18°C to 16°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Plan any trip to Lac des Pyrales around it.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Tappin sits 0.6 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Lac des Pyrales before loading the car.
