Solid cloud cover today, with a mirror surface most of the day and pressure sitting still. The fish at Lac Abos are likely to sit near the shaded margin through bright spells. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Out in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, sits Lac Abos. It lies 451 metres above sea level. At roughly 5 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. For supplies, Leblanc is 82 km out. The big place round here is Saguenay, 225 km distant. Also on the doorstep: Lac de la Tonne some 0.5 km off, Lac de l'As sits 1.2 km out, Lac Tappin some 1.2 km off, Lac Calmont sits 1.2 km out and Lac Curie some 1.3 km off. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Anyone new to Lac Abos should walk it once before setting up.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -18°C for January. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Lac Abos follows the weather closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. The nearest alternative is Lac de la Tonne, 0.5 km out. Signs at Lac Abos carry more weight than any list.
