An even grey lid over the water, with mild air moving in from the SSE with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac Delauniere will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

You will find Lac Delauniere in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Land around it is spruce and muskeg. It runs to roughly 13 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. About 1.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. For a base, Albanel sits 14 km out. It is 128 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac Delauniere gives up more to patience than to distance.
The seasonal spread runs -19°C to 17°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. That is the shape of the year on Lac Delauniere.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is recorded parking some 330 m off. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Lac Andre, 1.9 km out. Nothing on Lac Delauniere should be assumed from this page alone.
