A wet system passing over today, with a soft SSW wind and the barometer holding steady. The fish at Lac de l'Ours are likely to sit near any hard bottom among the soft. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Night
Lac de l'Ours is one of the Outaouais waters in Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have rolling bush. At 5 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Start from Deep River, 28 km down the road. After that come Chalk River at 30 km and Petawawa at 35 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Work Lac de l'Ours in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Expect July near 18°C and January near -14°C on the long-run figures. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. At Lac de l'Ours the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Lac Trottier, 0.8 km out. Nothing here settles the position at Lac de l'Ours for certain.
