Dull, settled light over the water, with next to no ripple and steady pressure. Start the search at Lac Chenu along sheltered bays and points. The morning is where the day comes good. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Chenu is a Capitale-Nationale water, Quebec side. The water sits 440 metres up. The water measures roughly 2 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Capitale-Nationale. Laurentides lies 25 km from the water. The big place round here is Sainte-Foy, 96 km distant. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Lac Chenu gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Long-term averages put July at about 17°C and January near -16°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac Chenu that shapes the whole year.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Lac Auges is 1.3 km distant. Confirm access to Lac Chenu locally before you travel.
