An even grey lid over the water, with stillness over the whole water and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Chabot should be near points where shallow meets deep. Set the alarm around the morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Set in Capitale-Nationale, Lac Chabot is a Quebec water. Mixed forest runs right down to the water. Around 11 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The edge runs 1.7 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The nearest town is Laurentides, 24 km away. After that come La Tuque at 42 km and Saint-Raymond at 59 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Capitale-Nationale: lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker and sauger. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac Chabot repays a walk before the first cast.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. That shapes the year on Lac Chabot.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Vohl at 1.3 km is the sensible second choice. Where Lac Chabot is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
