Flat light and a covered sky today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Lac Lacon should centre on the shallows early and the drop later. Make the morning the heart of the trip. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Out in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec, sits Lac Lacon. It lies 393 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 25 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Roughly 2.9 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. It ranks high for size among our Capitale-Nationale listings. Laurentides lies 25 km from the water. La Tuque is 38 km and Sainte-Thècle 62 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Capitale-Nationale, recorded fish include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Lac Lacon before you fish it and the day goes better.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -16°C in January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Lac Lacon runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Lac Petry is 0.9 km off. Treat access at Lac Lacon as something to verify.
