A closed sky with even light today, with air barely moving with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Champillon should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Lac Champillon is a Quebec water. It stands 434 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 4 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Normandin at 38 km is the nearest place to stop. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 153 km away. Within a short drive: Lac Ratier roughly 1.3 km, Lac Idyllique at about 1.4 km, Lac Minot roughly 1.4 km, Lac Ocarina at about 1.7 km and Lac Iteuil roughly 2.1 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The near bank of Lac Champillon is often the one people ignore.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Anyone fishing Lac Champillon regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Lac Ratier, 1.3 km out. Treat access at Lac Champillon as something to verify.
