Overcast skies today, with barely a breath of wind with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Chaloy should come off points where shallow meets deep. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Quebec is where Lac Chaloy sits. The ground around here is pine and birch. This is a pocket water of some 2 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. On size it sits at the modest end of our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list. For a base, Val-d'Or sits 98 km out. Malartic lies 107 km off, Notre-Dame-du-Lac another 114 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Abitibi-Témiscamingue cover northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Lac Chaloy repays a walk before the first cast.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -15°C at the bottom of winter. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Lac Chaloy runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Abenoux, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Chaloy.
