Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a whisper of wind from the S and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at Lac Canard is windblown banks where food collects. The strongest window is the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Canard is one of the Mauricie listings for Quebec. It sits at 492 metres above sea level. Small even by pond standards, it rewards one careful line. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. Nearest place of any size is Weymontachie, 19 km away. Beyond it, Leblanc at 70 km and La Tuque at 80 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout and walleye. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Anyone new to Lac Canard should walk it once before setting up.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -17°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. At Lac Canard the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. For a change of water, Lac Pakwecikan is 0.8 km distant. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Canard for certain.
