Solid cloud cover today, with a faint S drift and pressure sitting still. Activity on Lac Melbourne should centre on the shallows early and the drop later. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac Melbourne. It sits at 437 metres above sea level. With some 17 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 1.6 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Head to Weymontachie, 22 km away, for anything you forgot. Further out sit Leblanc (74 km) and La Tuque (77 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Fish Lac Melbourne where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Expect Lac Melbourne to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Failing this one, try Lac Verville, 0.9 km away. Signs at Lac Melbourne carry more weight than any list.
