Rain moving through today, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. Fish at Lac Denis should hold close to the calm side of the wind. The night carries the best of the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Denis belongs to Mauricie, Quebec. It sits in taiga country. This is a pocket water of some 2 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our Mauricie list holds plenty of bigger water. Some 18 km away sits Weymontachie, the nearest settlement. Further out sit Leblanc (67 km) and La Tuque (84 km). No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Work Lac Denis in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Denis.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Lac Duval is 0.5 km distant. Signs at Lac Denis carry more weight than any list.
