An even grey lid over the water, with a kind S breeze on the water and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at Lac Phil is reed fringes and open pockets. Save your energy for the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Night
You will find Lac Phil in Mauricie, Quebec. It sits at 477 metres above sea level. At 5 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Head to Weymontachie, 17 km away, for anything you forgot. After that come Leblanc at 67 km and La Tuque at 83 km. Water in the same corner: Lac Denis just 0.9 km, Lac Carmen a shade over 1.3 km, Lac Long just 1.4 km, Lac Duval a shade over 1.4 km and Lac Carpentier just 1.5 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. The near bank of Lac Phil is often the one people ignore.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -17°C for January. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac Phil fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Denis at 0.9 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Lac Phil may have changed since it was mapped.
