An even grey lid over the water, with air barely moving and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Lac Bren will be around inflow corners and shaded margins. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Bren belongs to Mauricie, Quebec. Around the bank it is boreal forest. About 2 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. It is a small entry by Mauricie standards. The town to know is Leblanc, 81 km out. It is 283 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Take Lac Bren a stretch at a time.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Lac Bren fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac D'Anjou, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Lac Bren may have changed since it was mapped.
