Flat light and a covered sky today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and steady pressure. Lac Borny should fish best around reed fringes and open pockets today. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Borny stands in Outaouais, Quebec. The bank is 388 metres above sea level. Roughly 10 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 3.0 km, and most of it is walkable. Start from Saint-Boniface, 80 km down the road. Maniwaki follows at 91 km, then Saint-Raphaël at 100 km. In the same area: Lac Haniquet 0.7 km, Lac Tamanoir a touch under 0.9 km, Lac Quarte 1.2 km, Lac Vodka a touch under 1.5 km and Lac Naix 1.6 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac Borny that means starting tight and working out.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -17°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Plan around that when you fish Lac Borny.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Lac Haniquet at 0.7 km is the nearest alternative. Where Lac Borny is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
