Wet weather working through today, with next to no ripple with the barometer flat. On Lac Bonnu, work shallow cover and weed edges first. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Outaouais end of Quebec holds Lac Bonnu. The surface lies 388 metres up. At roughly 8 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. For supplies, Saint-Boniface is 84 km out. Then Maniwaki, 95 km, and Ferme-Neuve, 104 km. Also on the doorstep: Lac Ambialet out at 1.3 km, Lac Habaru a shade over 1.7 km, Lac Tenberg out at 1.9 km, Lac Poulter a shade over 2.3 km and Lac Boulan out at 2.6 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Lac Bonnu repays a walk before the first cast.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 17°C in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. The water is typically free of ice between early May and late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. That shapes the year on Lac Bonnu.
We hold no note on access for this one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Lac Ambialet, 1.3 km away. Rules at Lac Bonnu are worth checking on the day.
