Dull, settled light over the water, with mild air moving in from the S and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac Bichet should be near shallow cover and weed edges. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Look for Lac Bichet in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The water sits 441 metres up. It covers about 8 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Normandin lies 88 km from the water. After that come Albanel at 90 km and Chibougamau at 96 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Anyone new to Lac Bichet should walk it once before setting up.
The seasonal spread runs -19°C to 16°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Lac Bichet runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac des Calandres sits 0.4 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac Bichet may have changed since it was mapped.
