Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a light chop building from the ENE and steady pressure. Lac Barbara should fish best around the margins and the shelf beyond them today. A broad window opens from afternoon into evening. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

Lac Barbara sits within Nord-du-Québec in Quebec. The water sits 472 metres up. It measures about 33 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge runs 4.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Supplies mean a trip to Kuujjuaq, 252 km off. After that come Labrador City at 375 km and Wabush at 381 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Read Lac Barbara for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
On the long-term average, July reads 12°C and January reads -26°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Ice-out usually falls in early June, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The lid tends to go about early June and return around late October. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Lac Barbara runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Wendell at 11 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Lac Barbara before loading the car.
