Solid cloud cover today, with a decent SW wind working the banks and steady pressure. On Lac Baillon, work the shallows early and the drop later first. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Laurentides, Lac Baillon is a Quebec water. The surface lies 459 metres up. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Laurentides. The closest town, Manawan, is 47 km away. Further out sit Rivière-Rouge (50 km) and Saint-Michel-des-Saints (50 km). The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Laurentides cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Lac Baillon the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Baillon.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Failing this one, try Lac Aubie, 1.2 km away. What applies at Lac Baillon may have changed since it was mapped.
