A grey, even sky over the water, with a useful SSW wind pushing food about and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac Azellus should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Azellus belongs to Lanaudière, Quebec. It lies 480 metres above sea level. At roughly 3 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Most waters listed here for Lanaudière are larger. Manawan is the closest town at 17 km. Beyond it, Saint-Michel-des-Saints at 53 km and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm at 86 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. The shape of Lac Azellus rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -16°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac Azellus that shapes the whole year.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac du Camp sits 0.4 km off and takes the overflow. The position on Lac Azellus is worth confirming on the day.
