Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a decent SSW wind working the banks with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lac Chaise along inflow corners and shaded margins. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Chaise sits within Lanaudière in Quebec. The surface lies 478 metres up. It runs to roughly 14 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. About 1.8 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Some 15 km away sits Manawan, the nearest settlement. Trois-Rivières sits 156 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. This one is safely inside the county line.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Fish Lac Chaise where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Lac Chaise runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Failing this one, try Lac du Fauteuil, 0.6 km away. Treat Lac Chaise as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
