A grey, even sky over the water, with a kind SSW breeze on the water and pressure going nowhere. On Lac Awashish, work points where shallow meets deep first. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec is where Lac Awashish sits. It stands 407 metres above sea level. Roughly 13 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. There is roughly 1.8 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Start from Normandin, 96 km down the road. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 213 km away. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The near bank of Lac Awashish is often the one people ignore.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. On Lac Awashish that shapes the whole year.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Lac Verlin is 0.9 km off. Signs at Lac Awashish carry more weight than any list.
