Flat light and a covered sky today, with flat calm through the day and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Lac Alex will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Alex is one of the Capitale-Nationale waters in Quebec. The setting is rolling bush. Surface area is around 17 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. A shoreline of some 2.3 km keeps the choices simple. Laurentides at 15 km is the nearest place to stop. Then La Tuque, 39 km, and Sainte-Thècle, 51 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Across Capitale-Nationale, recorded fish include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac Alex the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -15°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. The season on Lac Alex rarely departs from it.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac a l'Eau Claire is 0.9 km off. Signs at Lac Alex carry more weight than any list.
