Wind pushing hard across the water today, with a persistent wind from the SSW and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac a Pit should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac a Pit is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. It lies 363 metres above sea level. The nearest place of any size is Métabetchouan, 20 km away. It is 88 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Neighbouring water: Lac du Cure-Roy lies 0.8 km on, Lac Louis 0.9 km away, Lac Delisle lies 1.7 km on, Lac Trevis 2 km away and Lac a Roger lies 2.8 km on. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac a Pit light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Averages move between -17°C in January and 17°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Lac a Pit runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac du Cure-Roy at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. For Lac a Pit in particular, ask before you travel.
