A grey, even sky over the water, with a kind WSW breeze on the water and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Lac a Francois are likely to sit near inflow corners and shaded margins. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac a Francois is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean listings for Quebec. It sits at 319 metres above sea level. With some 34 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 2.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Few waters listed in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean are bigger. Head to Saint-Félicien, 17 km away, for anything you forgot. The big place round here is Saguenay, 112 km distant. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac a Francois the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It holds true on Lac a Francois more years than not.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Vinceset at 1.5 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Lac a Francois.
