Damp, showery conditions today, with a busy SSW wind on the open water and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Lac du Cran is points where shallow meets deep. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac du Cran is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. The surface lies 316 metres up. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean standards. Nearest place of any size is Saint-Félicien, 16 km away. Saint-Prime is 21 km and Roberval 29 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. The near bank of Lac du Cran is often the one people ignore.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -18°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Plan around that when you fish Lac du Cran.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Lac des Marchand, 1.1 km away. Check the position on Lac du Cran before loading the car.
