Heavy overcast holding through the day, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Wysor Lake along sheltered bays and points. Save your energy for the evening. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Wysor Lake falls in Algoma, part of Ontario. This is taiga country. About 8 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Our Algoma list holds plenty of bigger water. The closest town, Wawa, is 36 km distant. Chapleau is 94 km and Hornepayne 108 km. Nearby, in order: Nicho Lake (1.1 km), Aitken Lake a shade over 1.6 km, Dobbs Lake (1.7 km), Summit Lake a shade over 1.9 km and Philip Lake (2 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Algoma cover walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. The near bank of Wysor Lake is often the one people ignore.
Seasonal averages run from -16°C in January up to 16°C in July. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Anyone fishing Wysor Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Nicho Lake is 1.1 km distant. Ask locally about Wysor Lake if anything is unclear.
