Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a consistent blow out of the W with a settled glass. Start the search at Dipneedle Lake along the shaded margin through bright spells. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet.

Night
Out in Algoma, Ontario, sits Dipneedle Lake. The setting is boreal forest on every side. At roughly 5 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Algoma list. Wawa at 35 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Chapleau at 96 km and Hornepayne at 108 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Dipneedle Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
In an average year July sits at 16°C and January at -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. The season on Dipneedle Lake rarely departs from it.
We hold no note on access for this one. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Philip Lake at 0.5 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Dipneedle Lake are worth checking on the day.
