Heavy overcast holding through the day, with just enough SE wind to ripple the surface and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Otter Lake will be around structure within a cast of the bank. A hard day on paper; the evening edges the rest. Lower the pace and stay patient.

Otter Lake lies within the bounds of Nipissing District, Ontario. The country here is mixed forest. It runs to roughly 86 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The perimeter runs near 6.3 km, so plan the walk before you start. On our Nipissing District list it sits near the top for size. The closest town, North Bay, is 15 km distant. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 128 km away. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Nipissing District include smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Treat Otter Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -13°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Otter Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Redbridge Lake sits 3.4 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Otter Lake before loading the car.
