Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a decent W wind working the banks with a settled glass. The water to cover at Doule Lake is the weed line and any gaps in it. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Doule Lake is one of the Nipissing District waters in Ontario. Rolling bush runs right down to the water. At about 19 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 3.0 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. North Bay at 15 km is the nearest place to stop. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 131 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Nipissing District include smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Doule Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -13°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Plan around that when you fish Doule Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. The nearest alternative is Otter Lake, 5.3 km out. The position on Doule Lake is worth confirming on the day.
