Solid cloud cover today, with a firm NW blow with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Four Mile Lake should come off shallow cover and weed edges. Block out the hours from morning through afternoon. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Four Mile Lake in the Nipissing District part of Ontario. The country round it is mixed forest from end to end. It measures about 83 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge covers about 7.3 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Size puts it in the front rank of our Nipissing District list. North Bay sits 9.6 km from here and is the nearest stop. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 123 km away. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Four Mile Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -13°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Four Mile Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Access is not recorded for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Hillside Lake, 3.1 km out. None of that is settled for Four Mile Lake in what we hold.
