A still, misty day over the water, with just enough SW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Trout Lake. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Trout Lake is set in Queens County, New Brunswick. The sea is 22 km distant. It runs to roughly 54 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. With about 3.3 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. The nearest place of any size is Grand Bay-Westfield, 17 km away. For a city, Dartmouth is 240 km off. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Queens County names yellow perch, alewife, pumpkinseed, chain pickerel and rainbow smelt. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Trout Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The year swings from about -10°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Count the season from break-up, usually mid April. The water is typically free of ice between mid April and early December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Expect Trout Lake to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Mud Lake at 1.3 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Trout Lake before loading the car.
