Fog slow to lift off the water today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SW with the barometer flat. Fish at Grassy Lake should hold close to the weed line and any gaps in it. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Look for Grassy Lake in Queens County, New Brunswick. It lies 171 metres above sea level. The whole thing is a single swim; walk it in a minute. It is a small entry by Queens County standards. You are 14 km from Grand Bay-Westfield. The big place round here is Dartmouth, 236 km distant. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Queens County, recorded fish include yellow perch, alewife, pumpkinseed and chain pickerel. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Treat Grassy Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
The seasonal spread runs -9°C to 18°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Climate figures give an open season running mid April to early December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. On Grassy Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Upper Tully Lake, 1.1 km away. Confirm access to Grassy Lake locally before you travel.
