A soft, muffled morning under mist, with an easy breeze from the WSW with the glass holding level. Give the calm side of the wind the first hour at Duck Lake. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Duck Lake lies within the bounds of Charlotte County, New Brunswick. Land around it is rolling bush. This is a tiny water, and one quiet approach covers all of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Charlotte County list. Grand Bay-Westfield sits 23 km from the bank. The nearest city of size is Dartmouth, 246 km away. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Charlotte County cover Atlantic salmon, alewife and rainbow smelt. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Duck Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -10°C in January. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. On average, mid April opens the water and early December closes it again. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. At Duck Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Moose Lake, 3.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Duck Lake before loading the car.
